The Role of Air Traffic Controller in the Cirrus Tragedy at William P. Hobby Airport

Just now I saw a video that was uploaded by Air Safety Institute. I feel sorry for the three people who died in that tragedy, particularly feeling sorry for the female pilot who was at complete peace and calm till the last moments even though she was burdened by air traffic controllers with frequent instructions throwing her all around at the airport. The elaboration detailed by the Air Safety Institute mostly blaming the pilot for the tragedy forced me to write this article. We may agree that in most cases we blame the pilot for any incident or accident. The elaboration given by ASI is quite sorted, but the thing I didn’t like in here is that the first culprit here is found to be the private pilot who had minimal amount of flying experience. It is easy to blame the pilot for not being alive to fight for her case and everyone else involved in the tragedy, particularly the ATC who want to save their jobs and reputation.  What I didn’t like was the cirrus private pilot was as...

The Pressure of Keeping Chandigarh's Roundabouts Intact

It is the middle of May 2024 and the city of Chandigarh is burning, the peak temperature touches 43 degrees. I am sitting in the comfort of an air-conditioned room, and I feel for the thousands of people who have to work outside in the sun. Even though our human body is highly adaptable, yet, there is a limit to the extreme conditions that we can work on. This place was not that hot when I moved here 10 or 12 years back. The air was much cleaner and the sky was visible in its natural colour, blue, back then and yes the roads were visible too, for there was less traffic. Slowly and surely this place too is being engulfed by the human species. Stoppage time at traffic lights is getting longer, with at some intersections it is a good three minutes. Don't know if anyone has observed or not, but there were no traffic lights at many intersections ten or 12 years back.  Reaching the office from my home has become nothing less than a battle, which I have to fight every day. During office h...

The Logic of Sunroof in Cars in India

The place I work is on the second floor and my workstation is right beside a window which opens to the parking lot of sector 8 of Chandigarh. My location gives me the chance to view numerous cars. Looking at these cars from the top is a pleasing distraction. At times when I am out of ideas on what to write then I start looking outside at these cars coming and going. Of late, I noticed that sunroof has become quite common in cars. Anyone having a car above 15 lakh or so prefers to have a sunroof. Then came the thought of the purpose of having a sunroof in cars in a country like India. In our beloved country, I am talking about plains here like UP, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, etc.It is bright and sunny most part of the year. Thanks to uncontrolled cutting of trees, increasing population, rapid construction all around, the winter season has been reduced to just two to three months in a year. Days in which our God sun is not seen is not more than a month. In the major part of the year, ...

Pursuing Master of Computer Application at the Age of 44

The headline of this article tells a lot about what it will be about. This is my story and I am Himanshu Tomar. Why does it matter that someone read my personal story? I am just writing down my mind here. This is the shape of the shapeless and endless thoughts that keeps running through my mind all day. I wanted to pursue master of computer application when I was 23. I did a one-year certificate course from NIIT when I was in college and that is when I got the idea that I should pursue my career in this field. I wanted to take admission in JNU, Jawaharlal University, but the seats were limited and the competition was tough, which I was not able to clear. I went to my dad's friend to have some career suggestions, and he diverted me to pursue MBA. Now, at the age of 44 I feel that it was the worst suggestion of my life, and more than that it was the worst decision of my life. Always and ever I had felt that I am a technical person. I am good in messing with machines and not in manag...

Trump vs Biden: The US Elections and Immigration Policies

Opinions on immigration differ completely between the two US Presidents. One opposed it strongly while the other rolled out a red carpet. We searched and analysed where immigration stands for the US economy. Here is a look. The black-and-white difference in opinion on immigration between the two US Presidents leaves many wondering as to how the US views immigration. Two recent presidents have been on the opposite side of the globe when it comes to their thoughts on the contribution made by international students and foreign workers. One of the biggest agendas of Donald Trump on his way to the presidency was to curb immigration, both illegal and legal. His standing on immigration remains the same even now, as the US warms up for the 2024 elections. Recently, he announced to target and bring down many rules that favour immigrants, such as automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal immigrants. Policies during the Trump administration were strongly against imm...
