An ILS Approach After 14 Years – A Journey Through Time and Skills

Shooting an ILS approach after 14 years. It was on Microsoft flight simulator, but it was worth knowing, it was consoling to know that I still know the things. I decided to fly out from Lakefront airport, as I was familiar with the environment. I decided to fly out to Gulfport airport which is just over 50 nautical miles from Lakefront airport at New Orleans. It was the flight path which was flown by me when I did my first cross-country flight. I asked for an IFR clearance and it was given as cleared for Gulfport airport as filed asking me to climb to 3000 feet. I was on runways 18R and decided to keep the climate foggy to get a real feel of using the ILS approach. I put in the throttle and climbed out, after a positive rate of climb I made a left turn to 067 degrees. The GPS showed that the airport was 54 NM from here. Since it was all white outside there was not anything to look around except to track the instruments. It was easy to maintain the altitude however, it was difficu...

Video Game Review - Completed Horizontal Stabilizer Jammed Mission on Jumbo Jet Flight Simulator

Hurray I cleared one more mission of the Jumbo Jet Flight Simulator mobile game.

The mission was to land the aircraft which was Lockheed L-101 Tristar safely as its trim malfunctioned.

The horizontal stabilizer jammed as I tried to land the aircraft at Catalina Airport.

The airplane started to drop rapidly as the trim for the horizontal stabilizer stopped working.

The airplane was controllable manually only.

The first thing I did to stop the rapid fall of the aircraft was to put down the flaps to full.

I don't know if this is the correct procedure or not, but this is what came to my mind.

During the after-analysis of the gameplay walkthrough video of the Jumbo Jet Flight Simulator, I found that the simulator itself suggested lowering the flaps to regain some pitching-up action.

I was successful in landing the aircraft on the third attempt.

In the first attempt, I was taken by surprise.

I was not familiar with where the runway was. I was high as I passed over the runway and ultimately crashed the airplane.

In the second attempt, I failed to align my aircraft with the runway at Catalina Airport.

The situation that I was given, put me almost at the base leg of the runway.

In the first two attempts, I was not aware of this situation and was turning earlier than required.

On the third attempt, I did not turn immediately and turned only when I was close to the runway.

I had already lowered the landing gear and put down the flaps and the aircraft was low two, maybe a little high for landing.

The simple reason is I did not check the landing speed for the Lockheed Tristar L-101.

The aircraft made a big balloon and in real life it means a crash. I was in a simulator so such kind of blunders can be waved off.

The wing of the airplane slid off the runway and there were big sparks came out.

The complete scene looked horrible as I tried desperately to stop the airplane on the runway.

The airspeed was bleeding fast and the Lockheed Tristar L-101 finally came to a halt one more mission was accomplished on the Jumbo Jet Flight Simulator.

Take a look at the complete gameplay walkthrough video and find out how the action unfolded.

The FAA Enhances Air Traffic Controller Training with New Program

Thousands of pilots across the globe enjoy their time in the air because there is someone on the ground that is keeping them separate from one-another and preventing them from colliding. The importance of Air Traffic Controllers will forever be there in aviation as long as man wants to travel by air. As the air traffic is increasing there is a growing need for rigorous training to ensure the safety and efficiency of anything that is moving in the air and on the ground in an aviation setting. Addressing the growing demand of the aviation industry.  The Federation Aviation Administration (FAA) recognises their importance as well, and have designed the best training for them. One of the premiere agencies in aviation, the FAA, and the best known private training academy, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University have collaborated to start the Enhanced Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative ( AT-CTI ). The Importance of Enhanced AT-CTI Training There has been a surge in air travel in...

Virgin Reviews - My 20 Years Journey on Bajaj Platina, Bajaj Discover and Now Honda Unicorn

I see very few Honda Unicorn these days in the Chandigarh area. Which is bit surprising as at present and Arguable Honda is dominating the two wheelers market in India. Both its scooters and motorcycles are selling like hot cakes. If not more, as per my observation at least 50% of the total two wheelers market is captured by Honda. This I am saying without reading any stats. I have observed that Honda Unicorn is the least seen motorcycle in Punjab and Chandigarh area. Among all the two wheelers that are made by Honda motorcycles company, I guess and as per my observance, Honda Unicorn is the least sold one. Ever since I saw the Honda Unicorn motorcycle, that was roughly 20 years back, I had fallen in love with it. This love was admiration-from-a-distance kind of only, because this motorcycle had been little over my budget ever since it came out. Our being a lower middle class family, we were only able to afford a platina motorcycle, that is easy to purchase and easy to maintain with hi...

Unseen Scars of COVID-19 that Shaped my Life

COVID-19 has not only uprooted economies, but also destroyed individuals both financially and healthwise. My daily routine was brought to a standstill during the second wave of the pandemic, as the notorious disease caught me. But even as the symptoms subsided, the lingering effect of the virus has been disrupting my life. Here I talk about my journey that went through the post-covid recovery and how it reshaped my thinking of health both mentally and physically. After being a victim of corona a lot of things have changed in my body and in my thoughts. I was still working in a college near Chandigarh, when, one early morning while riding towards my work I felt that something was just not right with me. By the time I reached the hostel room of the college, I was just not feeling the energy to move ahead. This happened during the second wave of the pandemic. Private colleges had partially opened and they had allowed some essential staff to stay within the hostel and look after dail...
